The Saumur Les Cormiers cuvée is made from 40-year-old Cabernet Franc vines recovered in 2012 cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics on a soil of sand, silt and clay on limestone. The harvest is done manually and fermented with indigenous yeasts before aging for 30 months in barrels in very cool cellars.

What you can expect:

Dense and complex nose of blackcurrant, blackberry, chalky and smoky notes. Ample and generous mouth offering maturity and a beautiful tannic structure. Good aging potential of this cuvée; the finish is long and mineral. To be decanted for 2 hours and to be enjoyed within 10 years (before 2033) with red meat, poultry, cheese.

About La Porte Saint Jean | France

La Porte Saint-Jean is owned by Sylvain Dittière, one of the brightest vignerons in the Loire Valley, whose companion happens to be Pauline Foucault – daughter of the legendary Charly Foucault, founder of Clos Rougeard.

After racking up some impressive apprenticeships with iconic natural winemakers, Sylvain returned home in 2010 to purchase vineyards and start his own domaine. It was in “Les Beaugrands”, a 3-hectare parcel in Saumur-Champigny, that he found what he was looking for. Today he has expanded his vineyards to 8.5 hectares, the maximum he will allow himself. He works with old-vine Chenins (60 to 90 years old) and 40+/-year-old Cabernet Franc vines, and viticulture is strictly organic. Sylvain believes in long ageing in used barrels, as he feels that his wines need the time in barrel to reach their full potential. His red wines express an elegance, finesse and delicate silkiness that liken them as much to Pinot Noir as to Cabernet Franc; the whites are vibrant, fresh and elegant.
